Del Vold and Elva Lewis named Honorary 90th Ponoka Stampede Presidents ❤️
This year’s Ponoka Stampede is the Year of the Cowgirl and what better way to do that than by announcing not one, but two honorary presidents, both of whom are cowgirls through and through and who were there when the whole thing started.
Del Vold, 95, and Elva Lewis, 101, are the fastest of friends. They both were at the first ever Ponoka Stampede and now they’re ready for the 90th. Their love and support of the rodeo is a true testament to their sense of family.
Del’s husband Nansen (Ralph) and her son, Blair, were both directors (and past presidents) with the Ponoka Stampede and Exhibition Association, and she’s seen them work through the many years of growth and change in Ponoka..
And for Elva, her husband Ivan and son Donnie were also directors of the association (Ivan was also president for some years). When asked if she ever tried to change their minds on a decision they made, she had an answer right away. “You’ve gotta be kidding me,” she joked.
One thing’s for sure, Elva’s memories of the rodeo go way back. “I can still remember running foot races underneath the grandstand,” explains Elva.

What a night for the World Professional Chuckwagon Association and the Ponoka Stampede.
A historic, record-breaking tarp auction at the Ponoka Stampede delivered an incredible $904,500—setting the tone for a milestone 90th year.
The top bid of the night reached a staggering $150,000 for the tarp of driver Dean Dreger, proudly sponsored by Four Legged Adventures.
From start to finish, it was a night powered by community, tradition, and the continued growth of chuckwagon racing.

Frank’s final ride ❤️
Thank you to everyone who attended Franks celebration of life.
The rodeo community lost a legend as Ponoka Stampede Lifetime Member and Senator, Frank Mickey, passed away on November 22.
Frank began volunteering at the Ponoka Stampede in 1947 - and for the next 78 years he devoted immeasurable time and effort into building the Stampede into the world class event we know today.
Frank received ‘Man of the Year’ honors with the Ponoka Stampede Association and the CPRA in 1984 and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in the builders category in 2005.
He has proudly overseen many changes and improvements to the Stampede Grounds and rodeo events over the years, including the amazing transformation from wood to steel of the grandstands, the chutes, the corrals, and buildings. Factors for ongoing successes have included the addition of the RV Park, Longscore Saloon, Tommy Dorchester Paddock, the Stagecoach Saloon, the rebuilding of the racetrack and the access tunnel, the Wild West Grandstand and Showdown Dance Hall.
Through all his dedication and efforts, Frank is quick to salute the support and enthusiasm of the volunteers, the community, the generations of PSA members and from the many thousands of rodeo contestants and fans.
His footprints mark every inch of the Ponoka Stampede grounds- and will always remain here.
